Transcript for Federal Disability Retirement video by Harris Federal Law Firm

The following is a transcript of the audio from the Diability Retirement video produced by Harris Federal Law Firm:

Federal employees work all across our nation in countless agencies providing valuable civil services to our communities and our country. They provide security, protect our borders and our resources and even deliver our mail. Our federal government employs over two and a half million men and women, and unfortunately, some of them get injured, or develop a medical condition that may prevent them from doing their normal job. Many of them try to continue to go to work but there comes a point some of them realize they will never be able to go back to their original jobs full-time. This presents a problem.

Many of these employees have a vested interest in keeping their careers with the government, since they have been earning a pension. Some can continue to work limited or modified duties as long as it is available to them at their agency. Sometimes they are even offered full-time assignments at a lower pay grade. However accepting this type of employment can cost the employee many of their hard-earned benefits, including pay, schedule, hours, union protection, or even their job security. No one likes to admit it, but injured and disabled employees are rarely treated fairly.

But what if there was a solution? What if the employee could continue to receive a portion of their salary, keep their medical and life insurance benefits, and even leave survivor benefits for their spouse? What if that benefit allowed them to earn money at any job in the private sector that was within their restrictions? What if that benefit also continued to earn them additional credible years of service from the federal government toward their pension?

Well, that benefit exists and is called federal disability retirement. This is different from workers comp. It is a part of a federal employee’s retirement package that can provide a permanent solution. It is not automatically given. It must be qualified for, applied for and proven to be received. This process can be confusing and hard to understand. But an experienced professional can navigate you through the steps and help you get everything you've earned during your federal career.

That’s where Harris Federal comes in. We have experience helping thousands of federal employees know there rights and understand what options they have.

So if you have an injury or illness that is causing you to be less than fully successful in any major aspect of your federal job, call Harris federal law firm for free consultation to help you understand your rights, and make sure you don't get left out in the cold.
